Initiative #3: Hawai‘i Island Well-Being Challenge

"We need to change thinking of health care as treating disease and think of it as caring for health. Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for improving their well-being."
-Barry Taniguchi

The two goals Communtiy First, and its partners, hoped to achieve was:

  • obtain completed Healthways Well-Being Assesments (WBA) by December 31, 2014 and,

  • to donate $4.00 for ever WBA completed to Hawai‘i Island United Way's Kōkua Puna Relief Fund.

During the campaign over 1000 individuals took the Well-Being Assesment.  At the end of the campign HMSA generously increased the donation for Puna Relief from $4000 to $10,000.00.

Would you like to take the Well-Being Assesment and learn more about how you can be healthier?

Areas of well-being measured by the WBA include an individual’s sense of purpose, social relationships, financial security, connection to community, and physical health.

The WBA is completed in a secure online environment.  All adults who have not already completed the online assessment are able to take it. The WBA may be completed from any electronic device with internet access capabilities. The Assessment is protected, with data aggregated by Healthways. No identifiable personal information is published. Following the completion of the assessment, you will receive an email with your score, including tips and actionable steps to improve your health.
